KWG Open Meeting

Join us this Thursday, February 20, at 6:30PM for our open meeting.

You are invited to bring a short piece of writing to share!

This is a monthly opportunity for writers–of any experience level–to get informal feedback from other writers, and to provide feedback on the works of other writers.  The focus is on what’s working in each piece, and what questions each piece leaves the reader with.

Thr. Feb. 13, 6:30PM – The Creative Process of Visual Artist and Writer Joshua Frazer

Visual artist and writer Joshua Frazer will be our guest speaker. Josh is a graphic designer/illustrator who is a co-founder of the Left of the Lake magazine, as well as founder of the web comic “The Adventures of the Nautilus,” and other comic book art and writing projects. Josh will be talking to us about his creative process for his writing and art, and will do some audience-participation activities that combine the two disciplines.

Submission Deadline Wed. Jan. 15 for Radio Recording on Fri. Jan. 17

Note: We ask that you attend at least one open meeting before submitting work for the radio recording.

The Kenosha Writers’ Guild is going into the WGTD-HD3 studio to record its next Speaking of Our Words radio program on Friday, January 17th.

If you are interested in reading your work on the air, please see the following submission guidelines:

Submission Guidelines
– Any form – prose, poetry, play, essay, script, etc.
– Subject matter is not an issue, but language can be, so be mindful. Strong language is discouraged, so if you have a piece with rough language, edit it or submit an alternative.
– 500 word count maximum. You may submit more than one piece if the total doesn’t exceed 500 words, but in order to get as many readers as possible, only one piece may be selected for performance on air.
– Submissions should be e-mailed to Chris DeGuire at darthdeguire@yahoo.com preferably in Courier font.
– Submission deadline is Wednesday, January 15th.

The recording date is Friday, January 17, at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha, at 3:00 PM.
Selected readers will be notified by Thursday the 16th.

Looking to get specific feedback on your writing from other writers?

Consider participating in a KWG in-depth critique session.

During each in-depth critique session, writers focus on what’s working in each submitted piece, and what questions each piece leaves the reader with.

Note: We encourage attending at least one open meeting before participating in an in-depth critique.

Submission guidelines are here.
Submission deadline is midnight Sunday, January 5th.
Session takes place on Thursday, January 9 at 6:30PM.
